Already Sri Lanka is 0-1 down in the three match series, Sri Lanka were dealt a blow further when the team’s most experienced batsman Angelo Matthews made a request to Sri Lanka cricket to return home ahead of the second which will be against the Windies in St Lucia on Thursday (June 14).
Along with Matthews, Sri Lanka seamer Lahiru Gamage will also going to home having fractured his finger while batting in the first match which Sri Lanka lost by 223 runs.
Matthews had been sidelined for five months due to hamstring and calf injuries to him. He had also missed the Nidahas Trophy..He was determined to make a strong comeback in Westindes but an urgent family requirement get him out of the three match series..SLC official told on Wednesday (13 June).
Matthews made scores of 11 and 13 in the first test match in Trinidad.
Dasun Shanaka and Danushka Gunathilaka both are the replacement of Mathews and Gamage. They are expected to reach the Caribbean late Wednesday night. But both players are not going to play in the second Test.
Sri Lanka have Dhananjya De Silva and Mahela Udawatta to replace Matthews. Kasun Rajitha and Asitha Fernando are the bowling replacements for Gamage.
